Spanish Guardia Civil charge polling station in Catalan town

A video has emerged from the Catalan town of Artesa de Lleida of Spanish Guardia Civil (military police) on Sunday charging a polling station which was being blocked by locals.

The Guardia Civil eventually managed to gain entry to the polling station inside a local school but failed to find either the ballot box or the ballots and then departed.

Tens of thousands of Catalans are expected to vote in the ballot, which will have no legal status as it has been blocked by Spain’s constitutional court.

Madrid has sent thousands of police to the region to stop it taking place
