Tales From Marilyn Monroe's Crypt: Hugh Hefner's On Top?
Even in death, Hugh Hefner will be next to one of his Playboy bunnies – and she’s arguably the most iconic of the bunch.

Hefner, the Playboy founder who died Wednesday at 91, is scheduled to be buried next to Marilyn Monroe. In 1992, Hefner bought the Los Angeles space for $75,000.

Given that Monroe graced the first edition of the magazine, and subsequently helped catapult Playboy to new heights in pop culture, Hefner wanting to be buried next to her might not be surprising. And at least one other person had a similar idea. When entrepreneur Richard Poncher died in 1986, he was buried face down in the crypt above Monroe. But the deal, which he struck with Monroe’s ex-husband, Joe DiMaggio, wouldn’t last a lifetime. Poncher’s widow sold the spot on eBay for $4.6 million to an anonymous bidder in 2009.

In the sale, Poncher was moved to an adjacent spot, meaning he’ll now be face down above Hefner.
