The Voyages Issue: How Do Families Around the World Spend Their Vacations?

For two days in two vans over 400 miles, the New York-based photographer Mamadi Doumbouya traveled with his great-uncle, Mory Sanda Doumbouya,
and 15 family members from the city of Conakry to their ancestral village near Kankan.

Big families, old friends, groggy clubgoers and even circus performers with their monkeys
and parrots can all be found on the shores of Odessa, the Ukranian port city known as “the pearl of the Black Sea.” Sunbathers flock to Arcadia Beach, to the south of the city center, and health-seekers head north to the estuary of the Velykyi Kuyalnik River, where locals promote a mud-pack-and-saltwater-bath regimen as a cure for pain.
