WATCH: Labour MP accuses Caroline Flint of 'racism' for supporting managed migration
TWO LABOUR MP'S were embroiled in an explosive row over freedom of movement and their party’s Brexit stance on live TV. The Labour Party leader reiterated in the lead-up to the General Election that freedom of movement would come to an end when the UK leaves the EU. Clive Lewis and Caroline Flint were involved in a heated debate over the issue of freedom of movement on Sky News’ Sunday with Niall Paterson. Mr Lewis insisted that he believed in freedom of movement as the pair crossed swords before Ms Flint argued back demanding migration should be managed. She said: “So you don’t think we should manage migration at all?” Mr Lewis then argued that the whole freedom of movement debate always comes back to “racism”. He said: “So what you are talking about with managing migration, always ultimately comes back down to.“And you’re not going to like hearing this, but it always comes back down to racism.”Stunned by the remark, Ms Flint insisted it was nothing to do with racism as the pair began shouting over each other.
Ms Flint, the MP for Don Valley, raged: “No, it’s not. That is bizarre, Clive.“Diane Abbott and Jeremy Corbyn have said, and I am absolutely behind them on this, is that there has to be some recognition that there has to be some changes to the way we handle movement from the EU. “No Clive, because what you seem to not want to accept is people do not want to have our migration settled by 27 other member states. “They want us to be able to have the right to decide that.” Ms Flint then insisted that Mr Lewis “did not want to have any controls on migration”. The Labour MP for Norwich South, argued back: “You want to take back the floor democracy from Europe and hand it over in a trade deal to Donald Trump and the corporates.“I do want immigration controls, but I want freedom of movement within Europe.” The Labour Party and Jeremy Corbyn have been heavily criticised over its unclear stance on Brexit. . 00FastNews.
