'Answer my question!' Marr's anger as Jeremy Corbyn FAILS to condemn illegal protests
JEREMY CORBYN was put on the spot over whether he would support workers if they took part in illegal strikes. Jeremy Corbyn failed to answer Andrew Marr’s question on whether he would support or condemn workers if they took part in illegal strike action. The leader of Unite, Len McCluskey, has backed industrial strike action in protest at the one per cent public sector pay cap. During a heated interview on the Andrew Marr show, Jeremy Corbyn repeated that he would “be with those workers demanding a decent pay rise”.Presenter, Marr said: “I must press you on this, do you agree with Len McCluskey that it is the duty of socialists and the duty of trade unionists to defy this law.”  The Labour Party leader sidestepped the question, insisting that the Government needed to take responsibility for the potential strike action. He said: “Andrew your rights and my rights came because of protests historically in this country. You and I fully understand that. “I suggest the way to deal with this now is for the Government to recognise their problems, they have created by making public sector workers pay the price for the chaos created by the bankers.”Marr put the Labour Party leader on the spot asking “what had happened” to “Jeremy Corbyn that you can’t answer my question?”  Raging, Mr Corbyn fired back reiterating that he would be with those who are demanding a “decent public sector pay rise”.“What’s happened to Jeremy Corbyn is that he is the leader of the party and he is determined to lead this party and this country into the direction of social justice and equality,” he said.“It’s a crucial issue, I am supporting those people that are demand a decent public sector pay rise. I am supporting those people in making that demand. “I am saying that a Labour Government will repeal this trade union act and bring in fairness and justice at the workplace.

“I will be supporting those workers in getting a decent pay rise.” Mr Corbyn repeated that he would support workers when he was asked by Marr “even if they go on strike” on a picket line which is “deemed to be illegal”. The BBC host returned to the subject towards the end of the show to see if he could get a clear answer from the Labour leader. Marr said: “I am able to tell you that a lot of people on Twitter are saying they are very surprised you can’t answer my question about strikes. “It does seem to be a fundamental question, and as I say there are a lot of trade unionists here who want a clear answer from you.” Mr Corbyn continued his defence, insisting he was on the side of those demanding a decent pay rise. He finished: “The clear answer is this, I support the campaign for a decent pay level in the public sector. “I will ensure that a Labour Government would repeal the existing trade union law and bring us in line.” During the interview, Mr Corbyn also reiterated that support for the Labour Party was not falling off but was increasing. “The steam is rising, not falling, and the movement is stronger than ever,” he added. . 00FastNews.
