National Lottery: Anger as five balls AND bonus ball net winners just £14K
FURIOUS punters have hit out after seeing the National Lottery prize fund slashed to just £14,000 for matching five numbers and the bonus ball. People playing the Camelot-run lottery have criticised the smaller prizes on offer and complained that the chances of winnings now far less after 10 extra balls were added to the draws last year.The chances of winning the jackpot has dropped from one in 14 million to one in 45 million.Organisers say the move was designed to create bigger rolling jackpots and many customers had switched to snapping up tickets for America’s Powerball. One Lottery player said: “The idiots who thought that increasing the numbers would bring in more money forgot about the human element – the fun of playing with some hope of a win.“Now it is a joke and conforms to the law of diminishing returns. Their takings are down nine per cent and Camelot agents are reporting ever fewer are playing.“Please advise your friends that playing the lottery as it now stands is a waste of time and money.
“I am told by Camelot that the present arrangement is under review.“But any return to how the lottery was designed to be played will be an enormous loss of face.”Another player added: “I don't understand why National Lottery don't just spread out ALL the money out among the top winners each week instead of rolling over time and again? “Just another way to make people spend more money on it!”A National Lottery spokesman: “The National Lottery is paying out over 50 per cent more in prizes than ten years ago.“The fact that players are coming out in droves to buy tickets for the £134m EuroMillions draw clearly shows that people love the jackpots on offer right here in the UK.”. 00FastNews.
