Commutative Law of Addition

  • 7 лет назад
You will learn about Commutative Property of Addition in this video. The word commutative comes from commute or moving around. Let us understand this with the help of an example.\r
\r
Look at these 2 numbers: 2 and 1. 2 + 1 = 3. Now moving these numbers around, let us now add 1 and 2. 1 + 2 is also 3.\r
\r
Look at these arrows: 5 arrows + 4 arrows = 9 arrows. Thus, 5 + 4 = 9. Similarly, 3 tribal men + 2 tribal men = 5 tribal men. Thus,3 + 2 = 5. Now, changing the order of these numbers, we can see that 4 + 5 is also 9 and 3 + 2 is also 5. Thus, 5 + 4 = 4 + 5 and 3 + 2 = 2 + 3. What does this mean? This means, addends taken in any order give the same sum. This property is known as the commutative property of addition. In general, this rule can be written as a + b = b + a.\r
