A magnitude 7.4 earthquake today (September 9) hit southern Mexico, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The USGS said the quake’s centre was in the state of Puebla, southeast of Mexico City, at a depth of 51 km.

Buildings swayed due to the force of the tremor, which occurred on the anniversary of a 1985 quake that caused huge damage in the capital.
