'Good news keeps coming!' Sadiq Khan SAVAGED for 'Remoaner' views in HEATED Brexit clash
SADIQ KHAN was savaged for his role as “chief Remoaner” during a heated London Assembly meeting. The Remain-backing London Mayor was told to change his Brexit tune because “the good news keeps coming” by Ukip leadership frontrunner Peter Whittle.Mr Khan has historically claimed Britain’s departure from the European Union can be stopped if Labour commits to holding a second referendum, claiming he was an “optimist” about the UK remaining part of the bloc.The London Mayor has also been an advocate for a separate deal which keeps Britain’s capital attached to the EU’s single market. During a heated exchange between himself and the London Mayor, Mr Whittle focused on Mr Khan’s negative outlook for Britain’s future after Brexit.Mr Whittle said: “Deutsche Bank, one of the banks that was apparently going to leave after we had the referendum, they have just signed a lease of Moorfields for 25 years, for a major European headquarters.“These are all very, very good signs Mr Mayor, aren’t they? Yet, the whole gist of the way the economics are talked about – particularly in this chamber is taking on the air of a wake.
“The fact is, these sort of institutions have to take a very long view. And, the truth is, during you the campaign in the referendum, where you were chief Remoaner, you were one of the people who said this was all simply going to fall apart.“But it’s not, the good news keeps coming, the good economic news keeps coming…”Mr Khan attempted to interrupt the Ukip leadership candidates speech, asking to interject to add his own opinion. Mr Whittle hits backs: “No you may not! We’ve got tourism up seven per cent, we’ve got retail sales up 2.4 per cent, the FTSE 100 and 250 are much, much higher than they were this time last year.“This is simply not happening, this disaster, is it, Mr Mayor? You are in a position where you should basically promote everything good about London, I think these are the sort of things you should be highlighting, aren’t they?”He concluded London had become a centre for international trade because of its prosperous history, language and legal system and not its membership of the single market.. 00FastNews.
