Chinese citizens have paid tribute to the world's oldest captive panda, who died on September 13, aged 37.

In video filmed in Fuzhou in southeastern China's Fujian Province on Saturday (September 16), scores of people can be seen lining up to bring flowers and pray in front of giant female panda Basi's former habitat at the Straits Giant Panda Research and Exchange Centre.

Around 1,000 people paid tribute in total, according to local media.

Basi was born in Sichuan Province in 1980 but was moved to Fuzhou after she was rescued from a river called Basi Gou, after which she was named, when she was aged four.

Basi was the inspiration for Pan Pan, the mascot of the 1990 Asian Games that took place in Beijing.
