This Light Installation Is A Protest Against Gentrification In Australia

An art installation in Sydney, Australia, is doubling as a protest against gentrification.

That's according to the creators of #WeLiveHere, who are the local residents from the Waterloo Estates in Sydney. Waterloo is the city's largest inner-city housing estates, but thousands of its elderly and low-income residents are being relocated to make way for private housing and commercial properties.

#WeLiveHere gave 500 residents "mood" lights to hang in their windows, as an expression of concern about the new development and to humanize public housing residents.

It remains to be seen whether the project will be enough to stop the planned relocation, which is expected to start next year.
