The S-MAD Drone Can Land On Walls Like A Bird

It's safe to say that this drone is "bird-brained."

The "S-MAD" drone uses a wall detection sensor to slow down and change direction. It's inspired by birds, mimicking the way they approach a vertical surface. The drone can attach to the wall with spikes that can grip most surfaces. It can even take off from its vertical position by using a bird-inspired upward thrust.

Though S-MAD is just a prototype for now, its creators are hoping that more research will further improve its wall-landing skills.
