Russia's Yabloko claims huge gains in Moscow local council elections

One of Russia’s main opposition parties says it has made significant gains in Moscow in Sunday’s (September 10) local council elections.
According to its own count, Yabloko said it has won 180 seats.
Russia’s prime minister said he is satisfied with the organisation of local and regional elections held throughout the country.
Dmitry Medvedev, who is also chairman of the ruling United Russia party, said they were held at a high level everywhere.
Voting was held in 82 out of Russia’s 85 constituent regions in the last major trip to the polls before next year’s presidential election.
Some 42 parties and six public associations took part. More than 36,000 seats were open for election across the country.
As well as that, about 230 local referendums took place in the last major trip to the polls before next year’s presidential election.
