SpaceX Completes Ground Test For Falcon Heavy Rocket
  • 7 years ago
SpaceX is getting ready for a trip to the red planet.

The company just completed initial ground trials on the Falcon Heavy Rocket, testing the rocket's three first-stage cores. Elon Musk says the platform, originally announced in 2011, could one day take humans to Mars. Still, that could be decades away, especially since results of the test weren't released to offer an idea of how close the project is to fruition.

The engines generate more than 5 million pounds of thrust at liftoff, and can lift a payload of more than 119,000 pounds into orbit – twice the cargo of its competitors.

Plans remain for a possible November launch.
