Actor and martial artist Jackie Chan has joined the race to save pangolins, the world’s most trafficked mammal.
Chan appeared in a new video, recently published both in English and Chinese, urging fans to never buy pangolin meat or scales.
“When the buying stops, the killing can, too,” he explains.
The 182 member nations of the Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species embraced a total ban of the pangolin trade in September 2016. Even with the ban, the species is still under threat of extinction.
Since 2000, pangolin populations have dropped by nearly 50 percent due to rising demand in southeast Asia for pangolin meat and scales, an ingredient in Chinese medicine.
