John McCain Slams Trump In Scathing Op-Ed: 'Impulsive' And 'Poorly Informed'

Senator John McCain slammed President Trump in a Washington Post op-ed.
The Washington Post on Thursday published an impassioned op-ed written by Senator John McCain, in which he calls for Congressional independence from President Trump and urges bipartisan cooperation.
McCain admits that Congress is “proving inadequate not only to our most difficult problems but also to routine duties.”
He suggests extreme partisanship is part of the issue and states, “That’s not how we were meant to govern. Our entire system of government — with its checks and balances, its bicameral Congress, its protections of the rights of the minority — was designed for compromise. It seldom works smoothly or speedily. It was never expected to.”
Among his suggestions is showing respect for the reality, “that we need each other.”
McCain goes on to note, “That has never been truer than today, when Congress must govern with a president who has no experience of public office, is often poorly informed and can be impulsive in his speech and conduct.”
He further comments, “We must respect his authority and constitutional responsibilities. We must, where we can, cooperate with him. But we are not his subordinates. We don’t answer to him. We answer to the American people.”
McCain has been a vocal critic of President Trump, most recently speaking out against the president’s controversial pardon of former Sheriff Joe Arpaio and defying Trump’s insistence that the Senate vote to repeal and replace Obamacare.
