Bill O’Reilly has said that President Trump has "no clue" when it comes to understanding just how horrible the Nazis were.
The conservative commentator and author who has written books on WWII made the argument Monday in an op-ed for The Hill, writing, “I can tell you with certainty that most people on this planet have no clue as to how German Nazis went about their lethal business. And that includes President Trump and many other politicians both present and past.”
He adds, “Exceptions are the Jewish people who directly experienced genocide at the hands of the Third Reich. In most Jewish homes around the world, the gruesome German atrocities are discussed and children are taught what happened in detail.”
O’Reilly later goes on to say, “That's why no other discussion can take place when Nazis are being analyzed...President Trump did not understand that and it has hurt him. He was trying to make other points in the midst of the revulsion of white supremacists marching in Charlottesville.”
Trump has faced significant backlash over his response to the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, where white nationalists, neo-Nazis, and other such groups had gathered to hold a rally, reports the Associated Press.
In his initial comments, Trump was criticized for not outright denouncing them but saying, “We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides. On many sides.”
He condemned the groups in a subsequent statement, but then, at a press conference, appeared to once again blame the demonstrators as well as those who showed up to protest against them.
