President Trump is known as a prolific tweeter, and one company that is reportedly benefiting from his regular and sometimes controversial posts is Twitter itself.
Bloomberg is reporting that Monness Crespi Hardt & Co. analyst James Cakmak has determined “the social media company would see as much as $2 billion in market value wiped out if @realDonaldTrump quit tweeting.”
He explained that the move wouldn’t necessarily cause others to leave the platform, but the reduction in free global advertising for the site “would hit Twitter’s intangible value and lead to what’s known as multiple compression.”
The president’s @realDonaldTrump account currently has more than 36 million followers and 35,000 tweets.
His account has been heavily scrutinized, with a research team finding that his messages prior to becoming president “show that he is creative, competitive and a rule-breaker, but also has neurotic tendencies.”
Trump has continued to rely heavily on the platform since taking office, likely to circumvent the media which he has repeatedly criticized in the past.
In a July tweet, he defended his practice by saying, “My use of social media is not Presidential - it’s MODERN DAY PRESIDENTIAL. Make America Great Again!”
