Several coaches of the Puri-Haridwar-Kalinga Utkal Express derailed in Muzaffarnagar's Khatauli on Saturday.
Railway spokesperson Anil Saxena has confirmed four . However, news agency Reuters quoting a government official said that at least ten people have been away and 150 injured in the accident.
"An inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident. Strict action will be taken against any lapse," railway minister Suresh Prabhu said.
"Medical vans have been rushed to the site. All efforts are being taken to ensure speedy relief and rescue operations," Prabhu tweeted from his official handle.
Calling it a sad incident, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath assured that the injured passengers will be given complete treatment. He added that directions have been issued for all possible assistance.

The local district administration officials have rushed to the accident site and the NDRF teams have been mobilized to conduct rescue operation.
