Recently departed White House chief strategist Steve Bannon has declared, “The Trump presidency that we fought for, and won, is over.”
He made the comment in an interview with the Weekly Standard on Friday after it was confirmed that he would be leaving the administration.
“We still have a huge movement, and we will make something of this Trump presidency. But that presidency is over," Bannon said. "It’ll be something else. And there’ll be all kinds of fights, and there’ll be good days and bad days, but that presidency is over.”
He also discussed Trump's agenda going forward.
“I just think his ability to get anything done — particularly the bigger things, like the wall, the bigger, broader things that we fought for, it’s just going to be that much harder," Bannon said.
The controversial adviser has since resumed a leadership position at Breitbart News, the conservative media outlet he left about a year ago to join the Trump campaign.
While there are conflicting reports about whether he voluntarily resigned or was fired, Bannon’s departure is viewed as another step in calming some of the inner chaos at the White House, particularly since he was said to be a divisive figure within the administration.
President Trump tweeted about Bannon on Saturday, "I want to thank Steve Bannon for his service. He came to the campaign during my run against Crooked Hillary Clinton - it was great! Thanks S."
