The Cardinals threatened to add to their 7-6 lead when Fernando Vina led off the eighth with a triple, but he was stranded there. In the bottom half, Tony Womack .
After throwing a pitch up and in to Dan Haren in the second inning, Matt Clement was plunked by Haren in the third, setting off a doozy of a shouting match .
The Cardinals added to their lead with an RBI single by Edgar Renteria, but the Cubs answered with a two-run homer by Moises Alou and a solo shot by Alex .
In the fourth game of a critical five-game series between the Cubs and Cardinals at Wrigley Field in 2003, tensions rose in the bottom of the third inning.
