Houston Police Officer Recovering After 16-Foot Fall from Highway

Two Houston police officers are recovering after falling 16 feet from a highway after a driver hit one of them as they were investigating a car crash on Friday, July 28.Officer R. Carter was taken to the hospital and remains home recovering from a back injury. Officer C. Herrera was treated and released from the hospital.Houston police released Carter’s body camera footage on Thursday, August 10, as part of a press conference on drunken driving. In the video, Carter is speaking to another officer before a car can be heard skidding. A moment later the officer is falling over the side of the highway.Bianca Chanelle Bennett, 25, whom police say caused the crash, was charged with intoxication assault.Sgt. Thomas Fendia told local media that Carter was lucky because he fell on grass. Had he fallen a further five feet toward the exit ramp, he would have hit cement below, he said.
