Why US could begin airstrikes in Philippines

The Pentagon is considering taking military action against the Philippines with one goal in mind: to take down ISIS in the country, two military officials told NBC. "We have had a consistent CT [counterterror] presence in the Philippines for fifteen years now," Pentagon Capt. Jeff Davis Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said the U.S. was providing the country with "intelligence capabilities." Human rights watch groups linked Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte to nearly 2,000 extra judicial killings.
