A German teen who left her home in a town near Dresden to join ISIS about a year ago could face execution in Iraq, notes the Daily Mail.
Iraqi soldiers pulled 16-year-old Linda Wenzel from a Mosul hideout in July and she has been in the nation’s custody since, according to Metro.
Wenzel was reportedly drawn into the terrorist group through online communications with an ISIS recruiter.
The Daily Mail notes that she converted to Islam when she was 15 and soon after stole her mother’s passport and money to fly to Turkey and, from there, travel into Syria.
It is unclear what role she served in ISIS, but it is known that she married a Chechen man who was later killed in battle. Wenzel has frequently been seen carrying an infant, but there has been no confirmation as to whether the child is her own.
Germany is looking into the possibility of having her returned there where she could face trial for allegedly being a member of the terror group.
Concerns include whether or not she constitutes a threat to her native nation, notes the Associated Press.
Iraq could also reportedly decide to send her back there despite Germany’s decision, as she is a minor and a foreigner. If she does end up being tried and found guilty in Iraq, the death penalty is among the sentences she could be given.
