Tottenham finished their preseason campaign with a strong performance, beating last year’s Champions League finalists 2-0.

Both teams fielded extremely strong starting line-ups. Moussa Sissoko made his first appearance of pre-season, despite persistent rumors linking him with a move away from the club.

Spurs took the lead in front of a sparse crowd after 10 minutes. Sissoko worked the ball out to the right wing for Kieran Tripper, who found Harry Kane completely unmarked in the box. Kane powered a header into the ground and up into the roof of the net.

He nearly added a second after a comedy of errors in the Juventus defense. Gianluigi Buffon mis-controlled a back pass, presenting the ball to Kane in the six-yard box, but the Spurs forward couldn’t get a shot off. After a poor clearance, Kane had another bite at it, but could only turn the rebound straight at Buffon with the goal gaping.

Sissoko, who was surprisingly lively in the first half, hit the inside of the post after a mazy run down the left. The much-maligned winger looked to be working extremely hard — even if he’s off to Turkey at the end of the month, at least he’s trying.

In less positive news, Trippier came off worse in two crunching challenges, the second of which forced him off just before half-time (he was later shown wearing a boot and on crutches). That’s a worrying sign for Mauricio Pochettino, whose only current cover at right-back is academy graduate Kyle Walker-Peters.

Spurs doubled their lead shortly after half-time. Dele slipped a ball through to Christian Eriksen, who rounded the keeper and slotted home.Kane crashed a left-footed shot against the crossbar, while at the other end Hugo Lloris made a fantastic fingertip save to push a Paulo Dybala around the post.

The game started to fizzle out at that point as both sides made wholesale changes. Anthony Georgiou got a decent runout — he showed his pace and some silky skills, but lacked an end product. Tashan Oakley-Boothe, a 17-year-old midfield prospect, also got a five-minute cameo, as did Kevin Wimmer. Juve hit the bar twice, but couldn’t beat Lloris in the Spurs goal. And hey! That’s a win at Wembley.

Spurs kick off their Premier League campaign next Sunday with a trip to Newcastle.
