Fox News’ Sean Hannity has blasted a report that he spent $42,000 at a restaurant in Washington, D.C.'s Trump International Hotel.
On Thursday, the conservative commentator retweeted a post about the expense and wrote, “FAKE NEWS!! Ridiculous Fake News!! NEVER HAPPENED.”
The vigorous denial was made after a GQ story about the hotel stated, “...according to one forthcoming waiter, Fox News host Sean Hannity ran up a $42,000 tab in the restaurant, which included the cost of flying in an eight-pound 70-year-old lobster from Maine.”
It reportedly occurred during the weekend of Trump’s inauguration when the hotel was bustling “with diplomats and Trump's business partners from places like Dubai and Malaysia.”
But the piece added, “Fox News denied the story on Hannity's behalf.”
Hannity has been a consistent, pro-Trump voice during his presidency.
Back in April, the New York Times noted, "Presidents always deploy surrogates to appear on television to spout their talking points, but Mr. Trump has expanded on that by developing relationships with sympathetic media figures like Mr. Hannity who also serve as advisers.
In fact, according to a White House official, Hannity along with a Fox executive dined with the president and the new communications director, Anthony Scaramucci, on Wednesday, "to discuss overhauling the West Wing staff and his political strategy," reports the Washington Post.
