by Andrew CaringiThe latest innovation from the Nano-Tera Program, a Swiss government initiative, is a pollutant-sniffing robotic eel.Envirobot is prototypical mobile water inspector that can deliver real-time temperature, conductivity, and contamination readings through its motorized segmented body, which measures about five feet long. He can already be seen splashing about Switzerland’s Lake Geneva, no doubt adding to its calming scenery. The Nano-Tera Program was created to engage researchers across various disciplines to stimulate nanotechnological innovations. This eelbot alone involves researchers from École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne, the University of Lausanne, the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Western Switzerland, and the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology.
