President Trump’s sons Don Jr. and Eric reportedly feel overshadowed by their brother-in-law Jared Kushner who is a White House senior adviser.
As a family insider told People magazine, “All the attention to Jared is a bit of a sore point and they feel left out of the fun in D.C. They miss being at the center of the action.”
The source added, “During the campaign, the brothers thrived on being the spokespeople and speaking at rallies and being very visible. Jared was able to build much more influence and power by doing exactly the opposite.”
According to the individual, adding to the friction was a Forbes magazine cover from last December that identified Kushner as the person responsible for Trump’s victory; the source said, “Don is like, ‘No, I worked on the campaign too!'”
That said, the insider indicated that the brothers showed no “outward hostility” toward Kushner.
While he and their sister Ivanka Trump moved to Washington, D.C. in January to take active roles in the administration, the two Trump men remained in New York to run the family business.
According to an ABC News report from the transition period, “When asked if he was jealous of his sister Ivanka moving to Washington, Don Jr., said, ‘There is an element’ of that.”
He explained about working in the administration, “Anyone would want to probably be able to do that. But I’m very confident with the decision that we’ve made to be able to stay here and do this.”
However, Don Jr. has been making headlines of his own recently, after his June 2016 meeting with a Russian lawyer to get potentially damaging information on Hillary Clinton became public.
CNN notes that he is set testify before the Senate about the controversial meeting next week.
