The BBC has revealed a huge gap between the pay of its top male and female stars.

For the first time the British national broadcaster has named its highest earners with presenter Chris Evans topping the list, at around the equivalent of 2.5 million euros last year. (£2.25 million )

Match Of The Day presenter Gary Lineker earned just under 2 millions euros. (£1.75 million)

The highest paid woman was entertainment Claudia Winkleman, who earned around 560 thousand euros for her work on Strictly Come Dancing and other shows. (£500,000)

The corporation is facing criticism over the disparity between men and women’s pay, with two-thirds of stars earning more than 170,000 euros (£150,000) being male, and one third female.

The BBC has come under pressure for years to say how much it pays its highest earners and the obligation to name them was part of its latest 10-year funding settlement with the government.
