Charities based in the camp reported clashes between police and protesters, with teargas being fired, prompting an evacuation of the camp.The protest began peacefully, the previous day, with many expressing their frustration at the slow pace of asylum applications.However, on Tuesday, things took a violent turn, prompting the authorities there to evacuate the camp, according to NGOs on the ground. There were reports by the United Rescue Aid NGO of teargas being fired on protesters at the camp. That was also reported by the Lesbos Legal Center, which works with refugees there.Anger has been growing at the camp in recent weeks amid reports of poor conditions there.
