A recent survey revealed that a majority of Republicans believe both higher education and the media impact the U.S. negatively.
The Pew Research Center reports, “While a majority of the public (55%) continues to say that colleges and universities have a positive effect on the way things are going in the country these days, Republicans express increasingly negative views."
It further notes, “A majority of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents (58%) now say that colleges and universities have a negative effect on the country, up from 45% last year.”
Notably, Republicans under the age of 50 are more apt to see higher education’s impact on the nation as positive, though in significantly fewer numbers than they did in 2015.
Party views on the media did not experience much of a change at all.
In the recent survey, 85% of GOP respondents said the media has a negative impact, which is about the same as in the years prior.
The Pew Research Center conducted its interviews between June 8 and 18 and the effort involved roughly 2,500 adult participants, all hailing from the U.S.
