Fire hits London's Camden Market - again

London’s Camden Market has suffered its second major fire in recent years.

A blaze engulfed three floors and the roof of the building on Sunday evening (July 9).

About 70 firefighters brought it under control by 3 am local time, and no one was injured, but dozens of stalls are believed to have been destroyed.

Firefighters are now trying to figure out what caused the blaze, while traders try to return to business.

“It’s a very calm, sombre atmosphere but very clean, very tidy. It’s a miracle how tidy Camden Market is looking at the moment,” said Iain White-Duncan, Director of Sales and Marketing at Camden Dining Group.

The area is home to more than a thousand shops and cafes, and it’s a well-known tourist destination that draws some 28 million visitors each year.

A fire already destroyed a big part of the market in 2008.
