'They are despicable, violent extremists': German Interior Minister compares G20 protesters to Islamic terrorists

German Interior Minister Thomas De Maiziere has compared violent protesters at the recent G20 summit in Hamburg to "neo-Nazis and Islamic terrorists". The summit was marred with large scale protests, with reports of clashes with police taking place throughout. Speaking on July 10, De Maiziere called for "harsh rulings" against those arrested, and backed a European database for "leftist extremism".
