A Chinese university has reportedly become the first to issue acceptance letters to prospective students using augmented reality (AR).

The video, filmed at Northwestern Polytechnical University in Xi'an, shows a lecturer demonstrating the technology.

The recipients are required to download an app before scanning a document to activate the AR experience.

The digital letter then reveals the university's history and expertise.
