Very seldom does Jimmy Iovine, Founder of Interscope records & co-creator of Beats By Dre, step out and speak to press for interviews. Today, Jimmy swings by Sway in the Morning to lay it all on the table.
Before Interscope, Jimmy was a rock producer and engineer for legends like John Lennon and Bruce Springsteen. So, the first time he really took a listen to hip-hop was when Suge Knight and Dr. Dre came to his office with The Chronic.
While in-studio, Iovine opened up some more by touching on the violence inside Death Row and Suge Knight’s desire for Dr. Dre to leave the label. From the structure of a label to allowing the artists to express themselves — despite the fury it brought on to the rest of the world — Iovine stood by his artists.
