Katy Perry: 'California Gurl' turned Pop-Icon
  • 7 years ago
Pop sensation Katy Perry wasn't always known as Katy Perry. Kathryn Hudson was born in Santa Barabra, CA, and is the daughter of two conservative pastors, who never let her listen to rock or pop. She later adopted her mother's maiden name, Perry, when reinventing her music persona. In 2007, she was signed to Capitol Records after three failed deals with other labels. Her single 'I Kissed A Girl' blew up and landed her album 'One of the Boys' a spot on Billboard's Hot 100. The pop star was married to actor Russell Brand, but the two split in 2010 after a 2-year marriage. Katy Perry has since performed at the 2015 Super Bowl Halftime show and has five studio albums under her belt.
