China released Nobel Peace Prize winner Liu Xiaobo from jail on Monday on medical grounds. His lawyers told The Washington Post that the 61-year-old was released to treat his liver cancer. Xiaobo is the first citizen of China to win the Nobel Prize in 2010, and is also the first laureate serving in jail. He was sentenced to 11 years in prison in 2008 for “inciting subversion of state power."
