The Trevi Fountain rakes in $1.5M annually from tourists

The Trevi Fountain in Rome is good business. The 18th century landmark attracts scores of tourists each year who toss roughly $1.5 million in coins into it. Such has become a tradition in part due to the 1950s Academy Award-winning film "Three Coins in the Fountain." One coin gets you a visit back to Rome in the future and two will get you a new romance and, eventually, a beautiful Roman wedding. NBC News reports that Rome's city workers donate the money to Caritas, a Catholic nonprofit that supports causes around the world related to health, disaster relief, poverty, and migration.
