UN: Five percent of the world's population recently abused drugs

The United Nations Office on Drug and Crime released their annual report today and some of the numbers they listed are staggering. For instance, the UN reported that around five percent of the world's population abused drugs in recent years. They also listed the United States as the home of 25 percent of drug-related deaths with the death toll hitting 52,000 in 2015. Other startling facts and figures include the rise of cocaine usage in Europe but over 30 percent between 2011 and 2015 and global opium levels in 2016 grewth by a third due to improved poppy yields.
