Rumors have been circulating about the replacement of Sean Spicer as White House press secretary since not long after he assumed the role.
Well, the plot appears to be thickening.
Bloomberg reports that, according to two inside sources, Spicer may move into a more senior and strategic position within the communications department, though President Trump has not yet decided if he will approve that transition.
According to Politico, the press secretary has already begun the search for someone to take his place at the podium, noting, “Last week, Spicer and White House chief of staff Reince Priebus reached out to Fox News personality Laura Ingraham about the role of press secretary…”
Spicer is also said to be looking for a communications director, after Michael Dubke resigned in May. David Martosko, an editor at the Daily Mail, is among those being considered.
When, or if, any of these changes will take place is unknown.
Though the White House has indicated a desire to reorganize its communications department, insiders say such planning is still in the early stages.
In regards to Spicer’s quest for a higher position, an unnamed person in the White House told Politico, “Spicer should be elevated and if he’s not, I would not blame him for leaving. The president owes him this much for all he’s done for him. Sean is indispensable and I think the president knows that.”
