Officer acquitted in shooting death of Philando Castile
  • 7 years ago
The Minnesota police officer charged with the shooting death of Philando Castile last year was found not guilty of second-degree manslaughter and two counts of intentional discharge of firearm that endangers safety. Jeronimo Yanez originally shot Castile during a traffic stop as Castile's girlfriend filmed the aftermath on Facebook Live. Yanez told prosecutors he thought Castile matched the description of a suspect in a recent robbery. He also said he was reaching for his gun. The shooting was one of a few late last year that brought to light perceived civil rights violations in the African American community.
