Lizzo on Women Empowerment & Self-Love + Performs Live
  • 7 years ago
Today on Sway in the Morning we welcomed Lizzo back on the show to talk about self-love, not feeling represented in the music industry and more. We delved into her roots as an artist and asked about her hesitation to go solo. “It was so scary . . . I think that psychologically I thought I needed somebody who I felt was more worthy of stardom to be next to me, that I could support.”

We also asked Lizzo to break down the meaning behind her latest EP 'Coconut Oil.' “I really so badly wanted to sing to women who looked like me . . . so ‘Coconut Oil’ the song came from that.”

Apart from being a powerhouse on the mic, the Minneapolis-based hip-hop artist delivers an explosive live performance every time she hits the stage. We spoke to Lizzo about her stage presence and how she’s developed as a creative since we last saw her. Beginning this June, the singer-rapper will be setting out on a North American tour to follow her EP.
