First Ukrainians Arrive in EU After Visa-Free Travel Takes Effect

The first Ukrainians to travel to an EU country without a visa arrived at Prague airport on Sunday morning, June 11. The new deal, which allows Ukrainians to travel in the Schengen treaty areas for up to 90 days without a visa, began at midnight.Many had gathered in Kiev’s European Square on Saturday night for a countdown to celebrate the arrangement. The rally was addressed by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, who said the event signaled “the final break of our state with the Russian Empire.”Footage by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty interviews some of the passengers on the flight from Odessa on their arrival in Prague, and shows the arrival of passengers from Kyiv in Brussels.
