Former editor-in-chief for Ebony magazine Kierna Mayo stopped by Sway in the Morning to talk about her efforts as Senior Vice President of Content and Brands for iOne Digital – a platform geared toward millennials and African American audiences. “It’s about giving people a lane to share ideology, to converse about conflict, the things that are disconnecting us as opposed to connecting us . . . ”

Mayo also clued us in on her newest website cassiuslife.com, named after legendary boxer and activist Muhammad Ali. With her latest project, Mayo aims to produce editorial content that provokes, disrupts, informs and uplifts. Cassius gives the voice back to the originators of culture. “We see the culture-vultures out there . . . selling black and creating it, manufacturing it, without the actual culture creators.”

In 2015 Ebony released a provocative cover addressing the Bill Cosby sexual assault allegations, under Mayo’s direction. Fast-forward two years Cosby faces criminal trial for drugging and sexually assaulting former Temple University employee Andrea Constand and we asked Mayo to share her thoughts on the issue (watch below to hear what she had to say).
