The White House criticized former FBI Director James Comey for suggesting President Trump might intentionally twist the truth.
The White House has criticized former FBI Director James Comey for suggesting President Trump might intentionally twist the truth, reports The Hill.
Deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders held an off-camera press briefing Thursday while Comey was testifying.
According to CNN, Sanders declined most Comey-related questions, but she did note, “I can definitely say the President is not a liar, and I think it's frankly insulting that question would be asked."
During his testimony, Comey commented that he kept thorough notes of all of his interactions with the president as he, “was honestly concerned [Trump] might lie about the nature of our meeting."
The former director also asserted that, after his firing, the administration, “chose to defame me, and, more importantly, the FBI by saying that the organization was in disarray, that it was poorly led, that the workforce had lost confidence in its leader.”
Comey continued, “Those were lies, plain and simple, and I am so sorry that the FBI workforce had to hear them and I’m so sorry that the American people were told them.”
