Genius Summary
Anthology series about famous geniuses with the first season charting how Einstein-an imaginative, rebellious patent clerk, who couldn't get a teaching job or a doctorate-unlocked the mysteries of the atom and the universe.

I don't usually write bad reviews at all, but this is the first series I've come across that truly deserves it.
To say this series is at all factual is absurd. Dramatic license is used at every opportunity to replace history with rumor, and it does so so brazenly, and during the most important moments that it's little more than your run of the mill soap opera, set a hundred years ago with familiar names.
If you watch this and find yourself saying "no, did it really happen that way?!?" The answer is no, it did not. What you saw is garbage. A young protagonist driven by a quest for self-aggrandizement bares no resemblance to the hero of scientific thinking we admire today, and a few technical words thrown around here and there do not give license to so egregiously rewrite history.
It makes me sad to think people will watch this and come away feeling like they've learned something...
This TV series could have been titled "jerk" or "douchbag" instead of "Genius" as well. Einstein (especially in contrast to Pierre Curie also depicted in the series) was a poor husband and man apparently. I don't know if the author of the book and the director of TV series give him justice, but watching Einstein in "Genius" - the icon of modern science and funny old man we know from so many pictures - was almost painful. So hopeless he was in a role of the father and life partner. The rest is OK, the production had a nice budget so scenography, costumes, locations are even more beautiful than the reality of the end of XIX and beginning of XX century. Even a terrible "swiss" accent produced by most of the cast does not spoil the fun. In general, it is another completely correct example of biographical cinema. Simplified, except things I described at the beginning it confirms Einstein's legend as a greatest mind of our times. You can watch it for entertainment, maybe you will even learn some things about protagonist, but do not rather think that you will get to know Einstein for real. It is a kind of truth that could be presented in schools but for elementary level at most. 7 for elegant form.
This show has a heart and a depth that you don't commonly see in TV. The performances are among the best I have seen. It delivers a shimmeringly visceral immersive experience into the personal life of Albert Einstein, and shows the humanity in him. Lorne Balfe's score and Hans Zimmer's theme is also something worth noting. I recommend this to anyone.
