Teenage girl stabs Uber driver to death with machete and knife

LINCOLNWOOD, ILLINOIS — A 16 year-old girl was charged as an adult for first degree murder this week after she butchered an Uber driver with a machete and a knife.

Early Tuesday, Eliza Wasni ordered an Uber to pick her up near a Walmart store in Lincolnwood, the Chicago Tribune reported, citing prosecutors on the case. Security footage from the store showed her stealing and exiting the establishment with two blades — a knife and a machete.

Her driver, Grant Nelson, picked her up, and a few minutes into the ride Wasni began her attack. Nelson pulled over and managed to escape, but died later at a local hospital. He was able to describe Wasni to police before passing.

Wasni stole Nelson’s car but soon hit a nearby median and then made a run for it. Police later found her in nothing but her bra and leggings, the Chicago Tribune reported, citing Illinois Assistant State Attorney Michelle Cunningham.

She is currently being held without bail in a juvenile facility.
