A billionaire space entrepreneur has said he thinks aliens have visited Earth and are still here.
Hotel mogul Robert Bigelow, also founder of Bigelow Aerospace, made the comments during CBS' '60 Minutes' interview Sunday after correspondent Lara Logan asked him if he believed in aliens. He responded, “I'm absolutely convinced. That's all there is to it.”
Logan followed up with the question, “Do you also believe that UFOs have come to Earth?”
Bigelow said, “There has been and is an existing presence, an ET presence. And I spent millions and millions and millions -- I probably spent more as an individual than anybody else in the United States has ever spent on this subject.”
And when he was asked about finding “other forms of intelligent life” in space, he told Logan, “You don't have to go anywhere…It's just like right under people's noses.”
Despite his certainty, he reportedly refused to provide details backing up these claims; however, he has told a story in the past about his grandparents encountering an illuminated red object in the Nevada desert.
Bigelow primarily talked to Logan about his company’s venture with NASA to develop expandable spacecraft which he has previously said could one day be “a first step…toward a permanent settlement on the lunar surface.”
According to him, it could provide a structure for a variety of functions like a hospital or hotel, saying, “it can function as a standalone destination because it has all the facilities that it would take to keep people alive.”
One experimental version is called BEAM which stands for Bigelow Expandable Activity Module, notes Space News.
It was launched into space last April and has since been attached to the International Space Station in its expanded form; the module is in the middle of a two-year mission during which astronauts will observe its performance in space.
