A Muslim man in Dearborn, Michigan is suing Little Caesars over what he asserts was a mislabeled pizza, reports the Detroit Free Press.
Mohamad Bazzi alleges that on two occasions, one in March and the other on Wednesday, the pizza chain gave him pork-based pepperoni instead of the halal pizza that was requested and indicated.
In Islam, the consumption of pork is forbidden.
Bazzi filed the $100 million lawsuit on Thursday, the day before the start of Ramadan, reports WTTG.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Majed Moughni, Bazzi’s lawyer, who is seeking class-action status for the case, commented, “It's really upsetting. My clients want the public to know. Especially during Ramadan, it would be a travesty if Muslims...in Dearborn bought pizza from Little Caesars and discovered they were eating pork," which he characterized as, “one of the worst sins you can do."
WJBK notes that the pizza chain said in a statement, in part, "While we can’t comment on pending litigation, we take this claim very seriously. At this time, we believe it is without merit."
