House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has called Greg Gianforte, the Republican candidate accused of physically assaulting a journalist Wednesday, a “wannabe Trump,” reports the Washington Examiner.
She made the comment during a news conference Thursday, saying, “To see this person, who wants to be the one representative into the House of Representatives from Montana be sort of a wannabe Trump. You know, use language like that, treat people harshly like that — that's his model. Donald Trump's his model.”
She added, “...we’ve got to really say, ‘Come on, behave. Behave.’ That was outrageous.”
The New York Post reports that Gianforte is alleged to have body slammed a reporter from The Guardian, Ben Jacobs, after being asked about health care.
While Gianforte’s campaign has issued a statement claiming Jacobs was the aggressor, other journalists who witnessed the confrontation have corroborated Jacobs’ version of events, notes The Guardian.
Gianforte now faces a misdemeanor assault charge.
According to the Washington Examiner, "Gianforte is running against Democrat Rob Quist to become Montana's lone House representative."
